Annual prizes have been established with two universities to honour former Optical Distributors and Manufacturers Association (ODMA) Board Chair and Director, the late Richard Grills AM.
ODMA said the prizes were a “very fitting way” to honour Mr Grills, who died last year, “by rewarding graduate achievements in low vision and orthoptics, topics that Richard was so passionate about”.
The University of Technology Sydney presented the first ever ODMA Richard Grills Memorial Prize to Melinda Mo from Queensland.
A prize has also been established at the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of NSW and will first be awarded in 2024 for achievement in the 2023 academic year. This will be known as The Richard Grills ODMA Prize in Low Vision.
