Remote Refractive Planning Progresses Digitisation

Implementation of the new ZEISS Refractive Workplace surgery planning solution is improving workflow efficiency by “closing the loop” from pre-op assessment and treatment planning and post-op refractive outcome measurement, according to specialists at the ParkView Day Surgery in Adelaide.

The purpose-built day hospital, which has been operating for over 25 years, has reported excellent early feedback on their use of the new ZEISS Refractive Workplace surgery planning solution, which offers comprehensive and integrated remote planning for laser vision correction procedures facilitated using ZEISS Refractive Lasers.

Despite being the first users of this software solution in South Australia, ParkView surgeons Dr Peter Ingham and Dr Ben LaHood reported being able to seamlessly integrate the tool into their workflow to increase their efficiencies in planning upcoming procedures.

“Refractive Workplace gives me the ability to precisely plan a SMILE Pro treatment from my office and immediately tell a patient if they are a suitable candidate without having to enter data into the laser platform,” Dr LaHood said. “This makes my workflow more efficient and eliminates the stress of having to contact patients to change plans.”

Dr Ingham reiterated the positive impact on his surgical workflow and also highlighted the safety benefit offered by this solution.

“Refractive Workplace is great for driving efficient workflows. Data entries are accessible by the surgical team ensuring timely safety checks are performed for every patient before they arrive.”

As well as supporting enhanced clinical workflows, the ParkView surgeons identified advantages in managing and tracking clinical results. Using Refractive Workplace they can import digital nomograms (created using ZEISS VISULYZE). Having selected their nomograms in the planning section of Refractive Workplace, the values are then automatically updated to show correct adjustments and parameters.

Dr LaHood said this feature has proven its value.

“I love the ability of Refractive Workplace to provide meaningful data to review on all of my refractive outcomes. Closing the loop from pre-op assessment to treatment plan and post-op refractive outcome, allows continued improvement in refractive outcomes for my patients.”

As refractive laser vision correction surgery increasingly moves away from a reliance on paper records and manual data entry, ZEISS Refractive Workplace early adoption is proving to be an effective solution to support this digital transition at ParkView Day Surgery.
