Six optometrists from Australia became Fellows of the American Academy of Optometry and another received an award for best myopia paper at its recent annual meeting in New Orleans.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) lecturer in optometry and vision science and QUT Myopia Control Clinic co-ordinator Dr Emily Woodman-Pieterse received the International Myopia Institute’s (IMI) award for best myopia paper at the meeting.
Academy Fellowships were awarded to supervising optometrist in the QUT Myopia Control Clinic Dr Rohan Hughes, Deakin University optometry lecturer and radiation therapist Dr Amanda Edgar, UNSW Centre for Eye Health senior staff optometrist Janelle Tong and UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science postdoctoral research fellows Dr Sheela Kumaran, Dr Parthasarathi Kalaiselvan and PhD candidate Rehana Khan Tajuddin Mohamed Akthar Khan.
More than 7,000 people attended Academy 2023 from 11-14 October 2023.
