Professor Robyn Guymer AM has been named Australia’s top researcher in ophthalmology and optometry in The Australian’s 2024 Research Magazine.
Now in its sixth year, the Research Magazine celebrates the excellence of Australian research by identifying the country’s top researcher, and top research institution, in each of 250 fields of research.

The Research Magazine uses an “impact score” to rate all researchers and institutions in each field, taking into account both the quality of the research (by examining only top journals in each field) and the impact of the research (judged by the number of citations).
Detailed analysis for the awards is undertaken by talent discovery and research analytics firm League of Scholars, which is The Australian’s partner in producing the Research Magazine.
Professor Guymer is renowned for her contributions to our knowledge of age-related macular degeneration, which have helped lead to new treatments capable of preventing vision loss.
