Employers of optical dispensers are being encouraged to contribute to the update of the teaching curriculum for the HLT47815 Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing qualification.
This is the first time the curriculum has been updated since 2015 and, according to Optical Dispensers Association, several core and elective units have become outdated.
ODA, along with Directors of the Australasian College of Optical Dispensing and other industry supporters advocated for the review to be prioritised “to ensure the sector remains vibrant, relevant and well-equipped to contribute effectively to Australia’s needs”.
In response, the review will be conducted by HumanAbility, a not-for-profit, industry-led Jobs and Skills Council funded by the Australian Government.
As part of the review process, employers of optical dispensers are invited to participate in face to face or online workshops during November and December.
The aim of the workshops is to thoroughly understand the current and emerging needs within the sector. The analysis and review will focus on updating qualifications to reflect current industry practices, improve career pathways, and enhance the safety and quality of training to meet today’s industry requirements and anticipate future challenges.
