iCare ST500: A New Era in Slit-Lamp Tonometry

iCare has launched iCare ST500, a new device that incorporates the essential features of iCare rebound tonometry technology into a modern slit-lamp-based design.

iCare said this new device enables faster operations and smoother acquisition, improving the efficiency of clinical workflow. Clinical validation indicates a high correlation of intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements with applanation tonometry, ensuring the clinical confidence that ST500 can provide comparable results to the current gold standard (GAT), without disadvantages. The data also showed lower variability between repeated results for ST500 compared to GAT.1,2

Furthermore, iCare said accurate, repeatable operator-independent IOP measurements are achievable with the ST500, without the disadvantages of applanation tonometry.

“iCare ST500 brings the key elements of the iCare rebound technology within the slit-lamp based tonometry, laying the foundations of a new era in the slit-lamp based tonometry market,” said Daniele Mantovano, iCare’s Global Business Line Director. “We’re excited to offer another great option to help eye care practitioners acquire and monitor patients’ eye intraocular pressure.”

Patient and Practitioner Friendly

ST500 has an intuitive user interface and easy-to-follow operations. The slit-lamp mounted design makes it easy to position patients and, with all the indications on a large display alignment and acquisition is easier too. A remote control further improves the acquisition process and a Quick Measure feature speeds up operations in the most challenging cases, minimising stress for all parties.

Builds on Past

ST500 retains all the unique and key advantages of rebound technology including:
• No need for topical anaesthesia nor fluorescent dye,
• No need for long collateral procedures like calibration, and
• No need for disinfection, nor sterilisation.

New to the device is a SmartCradle which enables the ST500’s lithium battery to be easily recharged while also preparing for easy connectivity and digitalisation of IOP measurements in the future.
