Paul Clarke, a retired optical dispenser and former co-owner of Vision West Optometrists in Karrinyup, Perth, has been appointed Advisory Board Chair of Optical Dispensers Australia.
Mr Clarke’s career in optics commenced as an apprentice optical mechanic with OPSM in Adelaide in 1976. He relocated to Perth in 1984 to work for an independent optometrist, eventually buying the business in 1991. Having retired and sold the practice, Mr Clarke now teaches optical dispensing at the University of Western Australia.
Mr Clarke has served on state, national and international optical dispensing associations. He was the inaugural President of the Australian Dispensing Opticians Association and served a term as the President of the International Opticians Association (IOA).

In 1999 he founded Equal Health, a volunteer AusAID approved organisation that takes a multi-disciplinary approach to health aid and health worker training in countries including India, Indonesia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Thailand.
On Australia Day 2017 he was recognised for his international humanitarian work and service to the optical profession with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM).
