mivision Issue 207 December 2024

Welcome to mivision’s final printed issue for 2024.

In late September, as the dust settled on the 2024 Olympic Games, I was fortunate to travel to Paris to visit SILMO – the annual tradeshow for eyewear and eye care. I’ve been to the show a few times now and it has been interesting to observe the growing focus on integrating technology into multifunctional eyewear.

Eyewear that can provide connectivity akin to a smartphone or smartwatch is now a given. What’s perhaps more exciting is the integration of technology into eyewear that enhances accessibility. And the size of it! Big tech squeezed into tiny spaces means these devices are becoming so subtle that they’re almost indetectable.

In the coming pages you’ll find some fascinating glimpses into the future, as seen at SILMO, and also predicted by some of Australia’s leading eye health professionals.

It’s been an exciting year at mivision. We have made further inroads into the Asian market, bedded down our digital magazine, and launched video production and interactive webinar services.

As we farewell 2024, you’ll also find an article by psychologist Dr Jo Mitchell that I hope will help you reset for the year ahead.

If you’re an optometrist and intent on cracking on, you’ll find a diversity of CPD articles to meet your needs: one on ocular surface squamous neoplasia, another on pterygium surgery, and a third on presbyopia. Plus of course, there are endless CPD articles available at mieducation.com.

It’s been an exciting year at mivision. We have made further inroads into the Asian market, bedded down our digital magazine, and launched video production and interactive webinar services.

Our printed journal continues to maintain its position of strength, offering the latest clinical, fashion, and business news, professional advice, and CPD content written by the most highly respected eye care professionals and academics around.

As we wrap up for the year, I’d like to thank every contributor to mivision. We are fortunate to partner with so many influential members of the eye health community who generously give their time to share their expertise.

Thank you also to our advertisers who enable mivision to be published online and in print, and to our readers for your continued support.

Finally, on behalf of Todd and myself, thank you to Maren, Nikki, Simon, Kirsten, Michelle, and Dione, as well as our print partner Dean and his team at SpecialT, who together ensure mivision continues to be delivered to readers in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, online and in print.

I wish you all the best for the festive season.
