Gelflex has been manufacturing quality custom contact lenses for optometrists in Australia and around the world for over 40 years, and is currently Australia’s only disposable lens factory exporting lenses around the world.
With a commitment to supporting the local community, Gelflex supplies soft baby lenses to several children’s hospitals in Australia for families who would ordinarily not be able to afford these lenses. These are supplied well below the cost to manufacture and allow babies to see the world before they need to undergo eye surgery.
Gelflex also works closely with the University of Western Australia (UWA) Optometry School providing free lenses for eligible patients attending the University’s eye clinic who need specialty lenses but don’t have the financial means to purchase them.
The company also hosts an annual student day at the facility in Perth, where students from the UWA Optometry School learn how lenses are manufactured and hear from key opinion leaders in the industry on a variety of practical topics. The students learn about the importance of the relationship between the laboratory and the optometrist and how they are supported in specialty lens fitting. This Student Day has officially been added to the Bachelor of Optometry Curriculum.
Gelflex has a global presence, with office locations in four countries, allowing the company not only to meet its customers’ needs, but also to embrace opportunities to support local communities in those markets.
