Associate Professor Smita Agarwal has become the first ophthalmologist to engage mivision to produce patient facing videos to introduce her services and inform about specific ophthalmic procedures.
Assoc Prof Agarwal, who is the lead ophthalmologist at Wollongong Eye Specialists on the south coast of New South Wales, said the videos will be uploaded to her practice website for all to access, and links to the videos will be distributed to optometrists that refer patients to her for surgical procedures. Additionally, mivision will distribute the videos to optometrists in Assoc Prof Agarwal’s area of practice.
Separate one-minute videos have been created for cataract surgery, laser refractive surgery for hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism, and for presbyopia. In each video, Assoc Prof Agarwal introduces herself, provides a brief outline of the relevant ocular condition, and explains what patients can expect to experience when they undergo their procedure and during the recovery period.
Video marketing is one of the most effective ways to engage potential patients
“Eye surgery and eye surgeons can be daunting for patients. I hope the videos help reduce any anxieties associated with ophthalmic procedures and make patients feel comfortable about asking their optometrist, my team or myself any questions they have,” Assoc Prof Agarwal said.
Video marketing is one of the most effective ways to engage potential patients, according to Paul Sallaway, founder, owner and web strategist behind Optics Digital Marketing and a regular contributor to mivision.
As well as breaking down the complexities of treatments, he said videos can help eye care professionals “foster a sense of connection with patients even before they walk through your door” and “humanise your practice”.
Todd Tai, Publisher of mivision, said growing recognition in the power of video is reflected in the increasing demand for his company’s video production services.
“We started by offering video services at tradeshows; industry suppliers wanted us to film key opinion leaders and product experts demonstrating new products. Now we are often engaged to film educational presentations and we are excited to begin working with clinical specialists, like Assoc Prof Agarwal, to help build her practice by communicating her services to optometrists and prospective patients.”
