mivision Issue 210 April 2025

This issue is all about improvement.

No matter how far we’ve come, there’s always further to go. Perfection is at the top of a steep slope and one that very few – if any – will summit. And while that may sound a little demoralising (even exhausting), I guess the trick is to flip the sentiment and make the journey a series of opportunities for improvement.

Whether you’re at the beginning of your career, midway or at the end, there are always opportunities to improve our professional expertise, the presentation and delivery of our services, our professional relationships, our personal relationships, our diet, our health, our fitness, our sleep patterns… the list goes on. I know.

With this in mind, we’ve collated articles that I hope will provide ideas for further improving your practice to make it shine out from the competition: For building your team with training; for improving patient outcomes with dry eye services, and the latest lens technologies; and for improving your profile with LinkedIn. We also have an article on improving global eye health through collaboration involving all disciplines and all levels of experience – from students through to academics, optometrists, and ophthalmologists.

Another recurring theme is that collaboration is the key to achieving outcomes and everyone has a role to play – whether operating in the academic, independent or corporate space.

There are strengths in each of these groups that can be optimised.

Accepting this; realising everyone has a right to work in the environment where they feel most comfortable and sees the greatest opportunities to make a difference will, I hope, lead to success in achieving meaningful improvements in eye health outcomes.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning”.

Enjoy!
