University of New South Wales Medicine and Health will offer short courses in myopia, dry eye disease and advanced paediatric eye care over the coming months. The courses are designed to equip health professionals, clinicians and non-clinicians with skills to boost their impact in health within Australia and overseas.
Each 30-hour course is delivered via a combination of online asynchronous (self-paced) learning, and group activities via Zoom synchronous sessions.
Advanced Paediatric Eye Care: 21 July – 1 September
This course aims to provide advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary for diagnosis and management of common childhood vision disorders. It emphasises the importance of the comprehensive childhood vision examination, the management of childhood refractive error, evaluation and management of common strabismus and diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia.

- Comprehensive clinical eye exam of infant and young child,
- Typical general and visual pathway development in children, The child with a developmental delay,
- Management of childhood refractive error,
- Amblyopia,
- Childhood strabismus – diagnosis/classification,
- Childhood strabismus – management, and

Dry Eye Disease: Diagnosis And Management: 25 August – 26 September
This course provides the knowledge and skills to confidently diagnose dry eye disease, as well as to differentially diagnose it from other conditions such as blepharitis, neuropathic ocular pain and neurotrophic conditions. The course also teaches skills to manage dry eye disease with both therapeutic and nontherapeutic options.

Evidence-Based Myopia Management: 20 October – 20 December
This course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage progressive myopia. The course offers in-depth understanding and knowledge of the latest evidence-based optical, pharmacological and behavioural interventions to appropriately manage progressive myopia.
