Acuvue Abiliti 1-Day Lenses for Myopia Launched

The first daily disposable silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses specifically designed for slowing the progression of myopia in children*1 has launched in Australia. Johnson and Johnson Vision debuted Acuvue Abiliti 1-Day soft therapeutic lenses for myopia management at a breakfast event during the Optometry Clinical Conference (OCC) in Melbourne, in August 2025.

Optometrists Dr Emma Gillies and Alex Petty presented on the novel optics, paediatric design, and key features and benefits of Abiliti 1-Day. Mr Petty, Principal Optometrist and Director of Bay Eye Care, shared real-world examples of how the lens is directly impacting his patient care and myopia management practice.

Attendees learned that Abiliti 1-Day lenses are inspired by the paediatric eye,¥2 with a smaller diameter for improved insertion and removal, and made from the same silicone hydrogel material as Acuvue Oasys 1-Day.3

Featuring breakthrough RingBoost technology,1 Abiliti 1-Day has shown to be approximately twice as effective at managing myopia compared to a dual focus lens.§˄4 Furthermore, nearly 65% of children’s eyes wearing Abiliti 1-Day showed little to no myopia progression over the course of two years.4

Soon after the breakfast event at OCC, Johnson and Johnson Vision hosted a virtual webinar during which over 1000 viewers tuned in to hear presentations from Associate Professor Noel Brennan, Dr Xu Cheng and Mr Petty on the technology and impact of Abiliti 1-Day.

Optometrists who are interested in adding Abiliti 1-Day to their myopia management toolkit can take the first step by completing the Acuvue Abiliti 1-Day Accreditation Program on JNJVISIONPRO.
