Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Joins Be My Eyes

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT has partnered with Be My Eyes, the world’s leading Customer Accessibility Management platform, to connect Australians who are blind or have low vision with trusted, expert support.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT experts are now available through the Be My Eyes app, offering Australians nationwide direct access to certified orientation and mobility specialists who understand the lived experience of low vision and blindness.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT orientation and mobility specialists will be available to provide immediate assistance to users when they’re on the move out in the community and experience situations where they need additional information about their surroundings.

Navigational support in public could include helping guide a user to the pedestrian crossing on an unfamiliar street, helping them navigate around an unexpected barrier or assisting them in locating a destination they don’t know.

Similar to the service users already value from Be My Eyes, users can connect with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT professionals for support with everyday tasks such as reading a product label or locating a misplaced household item.

Making a Difference Day to Day

Guide Dogs Client, White Cane user Charlie McConnell said the partnership would make a significant difference to his day-to-day living. “I’ve been using the Be My Eyes app for about four years for all sorts of things, from getting my washing machine working again and help with finding my new wifi password, to finding my washing basket after it blew away!”

“Having Orientation and Mobility Specialists from Guide Dogs available through the app will make such a difference. Volunteers are wonderful, but these experts really understand how people like me navigate the world, from approaching stairs safely to identifying overhanging branches. Knowing I can now reach out to certified professionals who understand vision loss is incredibly reassuring.”

Karen Knight, Chief Services Officer at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT said, partnering with Be My Eyes would allow the organisation “to extend our support beyond traditional settings, providing real-time expert assistance wherever our community needs it most”.

“This partnership represents a really exciting evolution in how we can deliver support and another step to creating a more inclusive, connected community,” she said.

Mike Buckley, Chief Executive Officer at Be My Eyes added, “Partnering with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT allows us to expand the range of expert support available to our users in Australia, combining the convenience of our digital platform with the trusted, personalised services of a leading accessibility organisation.”

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT will be available on Be My Eyes from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (AEST).
