Sticky Tape Designed for Vision Impaired

Sticky tape that can be more easily used by people with low vision is on the horizon thanks to the innovative work of an ophthalmic surgeon working within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service.

Dr Rajan Bhojwani was inspired to develop the tape after a patient apologised for giving him a badly wrapped present because they were unable to find the end of a roll of tape.

Quite simply, he decided to replace the typical white inner core of a ring of tape with a black one that makes the tape’s edge immediately visible.

It’s practical, universal, and easy to love – the kind of product you wonder how you ever lived without

Having spent four years designing SeeTheTape, Dr Bhojwani received a £35,000 investment from ‘Dragon’ investor Steven Bartlett, in return for 40% of his business, via the UK television program Dragons’ Den.

“SeeTheTape began as a throwaway family conversation… I’ve spent years working on something that might look tiny, but can make a big difference for people – from parents wrapping presents to those with sight loss,” said Dr Bhojwani. “It’s practical, universal, and easy to love – the kind of product you wonder how you ever lived without.”

The tape was tested by Doncaster-based registered charity The Partially Sighted Society, and is already available for sale in the Society’s shop, as well as online.

Having secured funding, Dr Bhojwani and his team are now preparing for commercial rollout and are already in discussions with major retailers and manufacturers.
