Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) is hosting an education webinar, discussing how language shapes trust, safety and connection in healthcare.
Led by internationally recognised communication education Rachel Callander and speaker Kristina Ward, who lives with Stargardt disease and works professionally in diversity and inclusion, they will bring a “deeply human perspective on compassionate communication”.
Ms Ward will also share real‑world examples of how communication can harm or heal. Participants will leave with practical, powerful ways to elevate their communication in any clinical setting, MDFA said.
The webinar, which is approved for 1 Institute of Excellence Quality Assured CPD hour, will teach participants to:
- Apply person‑centred communication strategies that enhance patient engagement, safety, and understanding across diverse healthcare settings.
- Identify key psychosocial impacts associated with macular disease and integrate supportive, empathetic communication techniques into clinical practice, and
- Incorporate lived experience perspectives to improve shared decision making, referrals and holistic care for people with vision loss.
The webinar will be held on Wednesday 4 March from 6:30– 7.30PM (AEDT).
