Bausch and Lomb has launched its Ultra One Day Multifocal silicone hydrogel (Si-Hy) daily disposable contact lens in New Zealand. The lens has been designed to improve the vision of presbyopes.
“Although a natural part of aging, presbyopia often brings more than just vision challenges, especially for contact lens wearers who have lived a life full of freedom and satisfaction,” said Yang Yang, president, Vision Care, Bausch and Lomb.
“More than two of three contact lens wearers entering presbyopia find hobbies less enjoyable due to difficulty in seeing things clearly up close.
“The existing contact lens wearer is eager to continue living an active lifestyle in their 40s and beyond, and research shows 80% believe contact lenses can better meet their modern, multi-device life. We are proud to use our latest science and contact lens technologies to address the comfort, moisture and vision needs of presbyopes to improve the quality of their lives and keep them in the contact lens category.” 1
Bausch and Lomb describes the Ultra One Day Multifocal contact lens as “the most progressive lens for aging eyes” and a “most complete lens with moisture and comfort technologies and the company’s proven 3-Zone Progressive Design”. 2,3,4

Protecting the Ocular Surface
Ocular surface changes that occur with age, as well as lifestyle factors such as increasing digital device usage, can have an impact on presbyopic patients, leading them to experience eye strain and discomfort. Bausch and Lomb’s Advanced MoistureSeal and ComfortFeel Technologies work in synergy with the tear film as a complete system, meaning Ultra One Day Multifocal contact lenses help maintain ocular surface homeostasis and deliver outstanding comfort for a full 16 hours of wear.3 The proven power of 3-Zone Progressive Design – which accounts for seven human vision factors across nine critical distances4,5 – delivers effortless clarity and seamless transitions through near, intermediate and far distances, and a consistent power profile for an easy and predictable fit.2,6 In addition, the complete lens design has high breathability, a low modulus, easy handling and UV Blocking.3
According to a recent study, 90% of presbyopic patients surveyed agreed Bausch and Lomb Ultra One Day Multifocal contact lenses allow them to effortlessly move from various tasks throughout the day, and 91% agreed the lenses are comfortable when focusing for a long time on digital devices. In addition, eye care professionals surveyed agreed that the contact lenses were easy to fit for 99% of patients.2
