PersonalEYES PEACE Conference for Optometrists

Registrations for PersonalEYES’ annual Sydney PEACE conference have opened, with leading ophthalmologists providing a full day of face-to-face learning for optometrists.

The conference will be held at the Hilton Sydney in George Street in the CBD, on Sunday 15 March.

Conference attendees will receive an evidence-based update on contemporary refractive techniques – from advanced laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) to implantable collamer lenses (ICLs). Speakers will discuss patient selection, risk mitigation, visual outcomes, and how to counsel patients considering surgery.

PersonalEYE’s ophthalmologists presenting will be:

Dr Adam Plant – Secondary Intraocular Lenses (IOLs). Learn when secondary IOL intervention becomes necessary, how to evaluate challenging post-surgical refractive or anatomical scenarios, and referral/handover best practices for complex lens management.

Dr Thomas Chan – Retina + Other General Cases. A pragmatic session on recognising and managing a broad range of retinal and ocular conditions encountered in practice, with a focus on diagnosis, imaging interpretation, and timely referrals.

Dr Yen Cheng – Systemic Drugs with Ocular Side Effects. Dr Cheng will provide essential knowledge on systemic medications that produce ocular side effects – their clinical features, red flags, and how to adapt ocular care plans accordingly.

Dr Michael Wei – Geographic Atrophy Update. Get the latest evidence on geographic atrophy – including novel imaging biomarkers, progression patterns, risk stratification, and practical referral pathways to optimise patient support and visual prognosis.

PersonalEYES said the aim of the conference was to allow optometrists to:

  • Expand clinical diagnostic confidence across glaucoma, retina, and refractive care,
  • Learn practical management frameworks for complex anterior and posterior segment conditions,
  • Receive updates on cutting-edge technologies and therapeutic pathways,
  • Strengthen referral decision making and co-management relationships, and
  • Network with subspecialist ophthalmologists.

8Ti CPD hours have been accredited by Optometry Australia (OA).
