Wanted: Your Vintage Eyewear

There’s something timeless about a great pair of glasses. Not just in how they look, but in the stories they carry – of design eras, cultural moments, and the people who once wore them.

For Abe and Sara Vintage Eyewear, that fascination is where the story began.

Abe and Sara Vintage Eyewear started, quite simply, on a street in Paris. While living there, the company’s founders – Serina Levy and Doron Lemberg – came across an elderly woman selling a small collection of old glasses beside a market stall.

If you are an optical store, distributor, or manufacturer holding old stock – whether it’s a few boxes or an entire forgotten inventory – Abe and Sara is actively looking to purchase it

“They weren’t displayed with any sense of occasion – just quietly laid out, waiting for the right person to notice them. But to us, they were extraordinary. Each frame felt like a piece of history: untouched, original, and full of character,” said Mr Lemberg, who continues to run the business today.

That moment sparked something. What began as a personal love for fashion, vintage music, film, and the evolution of eyewear design quickly grew into a deeper passion – particularly for sunglasses and optical frames from decades past.

“We became captivated not only by how styles changed over time, but by the craftsmanship and individuality that defined earlier production,” said Mr Lemberg.

And it wasn’t long before that passion turned into an idea.

“We began sourcing old stock frames and sunglasses from wherever we could find them – small collections, forgotten storage boxes, and overlooked inventories,” he said.

“In 2010, we brought this growing collection back to Australia and started selling at Bondi Markets. It was there, face-to-face with customers, that we realised how strong the demand was for authentic vintage eyewear – pieces that stood apart from modern mass production.”

Since then, Abe and Sara has evolved into a global search. Mr Lemberg now travels extensively, working directly with optical distributors, independent opticians, and manufacturers to uncover new old stock – frames and sunglasses that have never been worn, often sitting untouched for decades.

“These discoveries are becoming increasingly rare, but they remain at the heart of what I do,” said Mr Lemberg.

“Along the way, Abe and Sara collections have found their way into the film and television industry. We’ve had the opportunity to supply eyewear for productions including Elvis, Paddington Bear, and series such as Dahmer, The Serpent, Nine Perfect Strangers, and Pieces of Her. For costume designers, authenticity matters – and original vintage frames bring a level of detail that simply can’t be replicated.”

Preserving the Past

At its core, Abe and Sara’s work is about preservation as much as it is about style. Mr Lemberg believes “there  is still so much incredible stock out there – hidden in drawers, back rooms, and storage spaces – that deserves to be seen and worn again”.

And this where optometry practices and their team members enter the story.

If you are an optical store, distributor, or manufacturer holding old stock – whether it’s a few boxes or an entire forgotten inventory – Abe and Sara is actively looking to purchase it.

“What may no longer suit your current retail offering may be exactly what my customers are searching for,” said Mr Lemberg.
