Clinical Education Dinner Series: Melbourne and Sydney

Two evening clinical education events aim to bring together ophthalmologists and optometrists for focused, discussion-based sessions on some of the most clinically pressing areas in current ophthalmic practice.

The dinners, hosted by OphthalmoPro, will be intentionally small, and designed for clinicians who want more than a product showcase – each evening is structured around evidence, real-world outcomes, and the practical decision-making challenges practitioners face every week.

Dry eye disease, anterior surface management, and refractive complexity have converged into a particularly demanding clinical space. Patients present with overlapping pathology; the window for pre-operative optimisation is narrower than ever; and the evidence base – including the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) Dry Eye Workshop III (DEWSIII) – continues to refine the way in which clinicians approach dry eye and ocular surface management.

Meanwhile, the evidence for photobiomodulation (PBM) in managing dry age-related macular degeneration is gaining traction, and many practitioners are working out how and when to integrate it. These evenings aim to close that gap between what the evidence supports and what is actually happening in practice.

Exclusive Technologies Shaping Refractive Outcomes

Date: Tuesday 19 May 2026

Time: 6:00pm

Venue: Rokeby 100, 100 Rokeby St, Collingwood VIC

Speakers

Dr Rahul Chakrabarti is an Australian-trained, cataract and refractive surgeon, and comprehensive ophthalmologist. He will share clinical data underpinning the Zoe intraocular lens (IOL) performance: outcomes, patient selection, and surgical confidence, alongside MaxVision, proven performance that gives surgeons the confidence to implant without hesitation.

Jason Holland, a prominent Brisbane-based optometrist, educator, and leading Australian expert in dry eye disease (DED) and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) will share his clinical experience in managing the ocular surface in refractive patients, aligned with evolving recommendations of TFOS DEWS III and how low-level laser light therapy is integrated into practice.

Gordon Shen, International Product Manager at Microclear Medical, will speak on taking the guesswork out of pre-op screening, mitigating retinal risks for high myopia and cataract patients.

TFOS DEWS III to Photobiomodulation: Evolving Approaches in Ocular Surface and Retinal Care

Date: Tuesday 26 May 2026

Time: 6:00pm

Venue: Capriccio Osteria, 159 Norton St, Leichhardt NSW

Speakers

Dr Nisha Sachdev is a general ophthalmologist and the founder and Director of City West Eye Specialists in Sydney. Dr Sachdev completed her surgical training in ophthalmology in New Zealand and further subspecialty training in Melbourne. She will speak on ‘Photobiomodulation in dry AMD – mechanisms, evidence, and clinical application’.

Jason Holland, a prominent Brisbane-based optometrist, educator, and leading Australian expert in dry eye disease (DED) and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) will speak on the topic of ‘TFOS DEWS III in practice: translating the guidelines into real-world dry eye management’.

Seats Are Limited

Both evenings are intentionally small. The format is informal, discussion is encouraged, and the speakers will be at the table.
