Day Hospital provider, PresMed Australia (PMA), has expanded its facilities as it enters a new phase of growth by acquiring a majority interest in Devonport Eye Hospital (DEH). PMA has also taken a shareholding in the practices of North West Eye Surgeons (NWES) in Devonport and Burnie, Tasmania.
Led by Dr Michael Haybittel since 1996, NWES has been servicing Tasmania’s North West community for over 60 years and has four ophthalmologists, one Commonwealth supported ophthalmic registrar and an expert team of clinical and administrative support staff.
PMA has also partnered with Intermediate Capital Group… to support our expansion ambitions and platform of day surgeries nationally
DEH, opened in 2014, is a one-theatre ophthalmic specific day surgery with co-located consulting rooms. Dr Haybittel will remain an ongoing presence in the business and continue to be an active provider to the community.
PMA’s Chief Executive Officer, Roger Cronin said “in partnership with the foundation created by Dr Haybittel and NWES, we look forward to meeting the community demand for ophthalmic centres of excellence that the PMA group of hospitals and consulting practices are known for”.
Last year, PMA added Sydney Pain Day Surgery to its group and within the next year will open a custom-built one theatre ophthalmic specific facility at Tuggerah, on the Central Coast of NSW. This year, PMA has also partnered with Intermediate Capital Group (ICG), a leading global investment group, to support our expansion ambitions and platform of day surgeries nationally.
First Acquisition Outside NSW
The Tasmanian acquisition is PMA’s first purchase outside of NSW. PMA also has other facilities in Chatswood Private Hospital, Epping Surgery Centre, Central Coast Day Hospital – Erina, Madison Day Surgery, MetWest Sugical, MetWest Eye Centre and Sydney Pain Day Surgery.
As part of the PMA Group, Mr Cronin said DEH and other new acquisitions have access to the many advantages under its umbrella. He said the advantages include having access to PMA’s expert industry knowledge, group health fund negotiations, corporate buying power, clinical and corporate quality and risk management programs including accreditation, financial and business acumen.
In a statement the company said, “PMA is passionate about partnering with new surgeons and day surgeries and invites interested parties to explore collaboration opportunities as we expand our group nationally.
“PMA’s expansion is a testament to its unwavering commitment to exceptional care over the past 26 years and the strong value of its trusted industry leading name.”
