Western Australian photographers have just one week left to enter the Lions Eye Institute’s inaugural ‘Eye to Eye’ photo competition, part of the Institute’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
The competition includes four categories focussed on the artistic and creative interpretation of eyes and what they see:
- ‘Eagle eye’ (animals),
- ‘Seeing through a child’s eye’ (open to children under 18),
- ‘Human eye window to the world’ (artistic and creative interpretations of the human eye), and
- ‘Seeing with the mind’s eye’ (a chance for photographers to show the world through their own eyes).
An additional People’s Choice Award will be voted on by the public, with AU$10,000 in cash prizes shared among the winners.
the inaugural Eye to Eye competition would focus not only on eye health but also on the many similarities a camera shares with the eye
Lions Eye Institute Managing Director Professor Bill Morgan said the inaugural Eye to Eye competition would focus not only on eye health but also on “the many similarities a camera shares with the eye, for example the aperture and the pupil both serving to regulate light”.
“In addition to celebrating 40 years of the Lions Eye Institute, this year marks a significant milestone with one million patient visits since the Institute first started treating patients in 1983,” Professor Morgan said.
The submission deadline is January 16, with winners set to be announced in March. For more information, visit the competition’s website at eyetoeye.lei.org.au
