WCO Initiatives for Myopia and Presbyopia

The World Council of Optometry (WCO) has partnered with CooperVision to introduce an interactive and educational resource for eye care practitioners worldwide.

The WCO CooperVision Myopia Management Navigator (myopianavigator.info) covers the three ‘Ms’ of myopia management: mitigation, measurement, and management.

Each of the three sections of the Navigator is linked to various elements of content and filled with advice and practical actions in the form of ‘Myopia Moments’, webinars, and other resources. The Navigator also serves as a ready resource in clinical settings to provide guidance for patients and families about myopia management.

In partnership with EssilorLuxottica, WCO has also released the global standard of care for presbyopia and the ageing eye with evidence-based resources. The standard covers:

  • Mitigation: educating prepresbyopes on presbyopia and the ageing eye and encouraging them to have regular eye exams to determine signs and symptoms, to take advantage of correction options.
  • Measurement: evaluating the status of a patient during regular comprehensive vision and eye health examinations, using both subjective and objective techniques.
  • Management: addressing patients’ immediate needs by correcting presbyopia in the ageing eye, offering relevant interventions (e.g., contact lenses, spectacles, pharmaceuticals, and referral for surgery) to meet their lifestyle and vision needs.
