Guide Dogs Referrals via Oculo

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is now available as a referral option on the iCare Oculo platform so that ophthalmologists and optometrists can refer patients directly to client services such as orientation and mobility services, low vision orthoptics or occupational therapy.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT said its inclusion on the iCare Oculo platform would make it “faster and easier for you to connect patients with functional vision services and community-based support”.

Eye care professionals play a critical role in supporting patients experiencing vision loss, the organisation said.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT said referrals would suit any patient experiencing functional vision loss who may benefit from:

  • Independent mobility training,
  • Support with daily activities,
  • Access to low vision aids, and
  • Assistive technology.

Once a referral is submitted, the Guide Dogs team will contact the patient directly to begin a personalised assessment and service plan, with no additional steps required by the ophthalmologist or optometrist.
