With Bp Software winding down support for Bp VIP.net, Shexie says it has already welcomed around half a dozen ophthalmology practices onto its Platinum practice management system and is in discussions with at least as many again.
Shexie Director Dean Jones said the company had built a structured migration pathway for VIP.net users, including a more flexible version of the VIP.net statistical form within Shexie so that historical clinical data can be converted and carried across.
“We’re doing that for a number of customers now,” Mr Jones said, adding that the Shexie statistical forms are fully customisable by users. “They can add more fields to the forms, make whatever changes they want.”
Customisable Clinical Capture
Shexie’s ‘statistical forms’ allow practices to decide exactly what clinical information they want to record. Ophthalmologists can, for example, build a screen to document floaters, complete with images that can be annotated. Date collected over time can then be reported on, graphed and interrogated, to monitor individual patients, every patient with a particular ocular condition, or every patient who has undergone a particular procedure. Outcomes can be tracked across a cohort of glaucoma, macular degeneration or cataract patients.
Shexie has also digitised forms for patient completion. The online patient forms are sent to patients via SMS or email link for completion ahead of their appointment, or can be completed on an iPad in the waiting room. Forms save automatically as the patient goes, can accept attachments such as referrals, and support a finger or mouse signature. Demographic details are mapped straight into the practice database, with basic validation applied.
“It saves them having to come into the reception room, sit down and fill out a piece of paper, and then reception having to type it all in,” Mr Jones said. Responses from online forms – smoking status or medical history, for instance – can also be merged directly into the practice’s internal statistical forms.
Regular Patient Check-Ins
In development is what Mr Jones calls ‘online statistical forms’, which will let clinicians send patients a short questionnaire about their ocular symptoms on a regular schedule – every six weeks, for example – with responses fed back into the record and viewed over time. Practices will be able to set parameters so that results falling outside a defined range are automatically flagged.
Payments Rolling Out
Shexie’s integrated payments offering, ShexiePay powered by Medeor Payments, is also progressing. Pay-by-link has completed beta testing, multi-merchant EFTPOS terminal payments have just entered beta, and online payments – including prepayment or pre-authorisation for telehealth bookings – are expected to enter beta within the month.
The platform also integrates with four AI transcription modules, with two more due before year’s end, plus HealthLink, Medical Objects, EyeVantage, Forum ZEISS and SOx surgical ordering.
