Topcon Healthcare Senior Global Clinical Product Training Specialist Mary Gazis discusses Gaia, Topcon’s new ultra-widefield retinal slit scanner, and how it has been designed to make retinal imaging faster and easier in clinical practice.
Gaia combines a 209° field of view with true colour retinal imaging, enabling clinicians to visualise the posterior pole and peripheral retina in a single acquisition. Automated alignment, focus, and image capture aim to reduce operator dependency, while its non-contact, non-mydriatic design supports patient comfort and efficient clinical workflows.
Ms Gazis explains Gaia slit-scanning technology and its application across both optometry and ophthalmology.
She also considers how ultra-widefield imaging can assist in detecting and documenting peripheral retinal pathology, as well as supporting referrals, co-management, and disease monitoring.
