Oakley has a long established history of being prepared to ‘rock the boat’, as they did when their now infamous Oakley Stadium Hole rocked the 17th hole, at the 2008 Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Love it or hate it, Oakley is changing the way fans enjoy golf and attracting new spectators to the sport. They encouraged course officials to put down the ‘Quiet Please’ signs, and then told the DJ to “pump up the volume”. As it did the previous year, The Oakley Party Hole proved to be a great way for fans to interact with players, and inject energy into golf.
Golf needs to lure more spectators and two-time Australian Open champion Peter Lonard believes the Oakley Stadium Hole will attract more people to the sport. “To me, golf has been suffering a little bit and you’ve got to find new and different ways to get people out to the golf,” Lonard said.
On a steaming hot Saturday mivision was on hand to sink a few beers and give readers an insider’s view of all of the action. Essential survival gear for the the day was of course, Oakley sunnies!
