Organisers of the popular optometric exposition Queensland Vision say they are “very excited” about the way it is shaping up.
The congress, which will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17 to 19 April, has already confirmed a record number of delegates with a substantial increase in delegates attending from interstate and New Zealand.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Marc Wei is the final speaker to join QV 2009 with his topic ‘Presbyopia correcting IOL’s’. Dr. Wei graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1989 and underwent specialist training in ophthalmology at Royal Brisbane, Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals in Brisbane culminating in the Fellowship of Ophthalmology in 1998. Upon completion of specialist training in Australia, he obtained further subspecialty training in glaucoma, cataract and paediatric ophthalmology at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and at Kings College Hospital, London, UK.
Many of the free small group electives (workshops) are already ‘sold out’ with ‘Posterior grand rounds’ (Dr. Bill Townsend), ‘Resuscitation techniques in an optometry practice’ (St John Ambulance), ‘The binocular vision assessment’ (Adrian Bell), ‘The slit lamp evaluation in uveitis’ (Ian Gutteridge) and ‘What’s wrong with that retina’ (Dr. David Hilford and Monique Hilford), fully subscribed.
The complimentary add-ons, which include the hosted shopping/tourist tour, crèche and breakfast sessions, are proving to be extremely popular with delegates and families, enhancing QV’s reputation as the ‘friendly’ congress.
Ever popular is CIBA Vision’s Gala Dinner, this year at Warner Bros Movie World on Queensland’s Gold Coast. All characters will be on deck with many of the breathtaking rides open for delegates and families, plus a sumptuous international banquet with beverages. CIBAVision has booked the park exclusively for the QV ‘family’.
Also, for the first time, delegates will receive a glossy handbook and expo guide courtesy of mivision. The publication contains all the program and housekeeping details plus speaker’s abstracts and exhibitor’s profiles.
