School Kids Help Give Sight

The inaugural OPSM Schools for Sight Program has been declared a great success with more than 230 NSW schools having collected glasses to support OneSight overseas clinics in countries such as South Africa, Thailand, Cambodia, Mexico and Panama.

Luxottica’s OneSight Foundation manager, Gina De George, said the OPSM Schools for Sight program received strong support from the NSW Department of Education and Training, with schools quickly registering to participate in the program and their students enthusiastically taking up the challenge to collect as many pairs of prescription glasses and sunglasses as possible.

“The number of schools involved in the program exceeded our expectations as did the number of glasses collected,” she said.

About 20,000 people visit each overseas OneSight vision clinic and around 50,000 pairs of recycled glasses are required for each clinic to ensure there are enough glasses to find the right prescription for every man, woman and child in need.
