
Australia’s “premier Optometry conference”, the Southern Regional Congress and Trade Expo (SRC) is being held between 15 and 17 May at its new venue across the river – the new Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
SRC 2010 is host to a more diverse range of exhibitors from the optical industry than previous years including equipment, contact lens and solutions and more frame and spectacle companies.
The international keynote speakers at the SRC 2010 are:
• Associate Professor of Optometry Richard J Madonna of SUNY State College of Optometry and Chief of the Ocular Disease and Special Testing Service at the University of Optometric Centre in New York. Assoc. Prof. Madonna has lectured internationally on glaucoma, therapeutic drugs, emergency eye care and age-related macular degeneration.
• Professor Susan Cotter, Paediatric Optometrist at the Southern California College of Optometry and Research Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of California Keck School of Medicine. Prof. Cotter lectures internationally in the areas of paediatric eye care and binocular vision.
The Australian Speakers are:
• Dr. Neil Shuey (who returns to the SRC by popular demand) qualified as an optometrist in 1992 and worked as a volunteer optometrist in Jerusalem before going on to complete his medical degree 10 years later in 2002. He is currently a neurology registrar at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
• Associate Professor Mark Roth is a clinical optometrist with a degree in pharmacology. He is currently working in private practice and is also a Principal Fellow in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne. His special interests include ocular therapeutics, particularly in the areas of ocular allergy and therapeutic management of the problematic contact lens wearer.
