Just before the first ball was bounced for the start of the footy season, OPSM was announced as the Australian Football League (AFL) Official Eye Care and Eyewear Partner. The Luxottica subsidiary is now the sponsor for the AFL Umpires, as well as the AFL Umpiring Development Program for the next two years.
AFL General Manager Marketing and Commercial Operations, Paul Waldren was joined by OPSM Marketing Director Vanessa Knight, AFL Umpires’ Manager Jeff Gieschen and AFL Umpires Brett Rosebury and Chelsea Roffey at the OPSM Little Collins Street store, in Melbourne to announce the partnership.
As well as its association with umpiring, OPSM will provide AFL supporters with complimentary eye screening activities at selected matches throughout the season and encourage fans to donate their old glasses to the OneSight Foundation at any OPSM store throughout the country.
“OPSM provides fantastic services which are so relevant to the Australian football community. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I have difficulty following the ball or reading the score at the football from time to time,” said Mr. Paul Waldren, AFL General Manager Marketing and Commercial Operations.
“Hopefully the AFL’s partnership with OPSM will generate awareness and encourage supporters to have their eyes tested every two years as recommended by optometrists,” he said.
Now that they’re sponsored by OPSM hopefully the eyesight of the umpires will be improved this season.
