British contact lens and aftercare solution provider Sauflon Eyecare has taken the unusual step of asking potential Australian and New Zealand customers not to purchase their products.
In a statement from Sauflon Australia’s managing director Mr. Chris Harous, the company says although the take-up of its products in Australia has been slow, there has been huge international demand meaning that spare production will now go to international clients.
The statement says despite the group “advertising heavily in Australia and New Zealand” over the past year bringing “to the market a range of high quality, state of the art, and in some cases unique products (i.e. silicone hydrogel (SiH) One Day) all at “highly competitive prices” the reaction has been most disappointing.
“In the meantime a large European optical group had seen the advantages of using such a unique lens from their own experience elsewhere and decided to take up all of the spare SiH production capacity reserved for Australia and New Zealand going forward by placing a large blanket order for the range,” according to a statement from Sauflon.
“In view of the above, Sauflon has taken the unusual decision of not encouraging any further orders for its SiH range of products in Australia and New Zealand for the time being.
“We are confident that as the range of products becomes more well known in Australia and New Zealand, more production lines are running, and our forward commitments are fulfilled, we will return to our normal service,” said the statement.
