ABC Lateline anchor and award-winning journalist Leigh Sales had her eyes tested recently by her local optometrist in support of julEYE – the annual campaign run by the Eye Foundation – to raise the profile of eye health in Australia.
This year’s julEYE campaign aims to get all Australians to book an eye test during the month of July.
Ms. Sales joins other celebrities who have signed up for eye tests this month including Underbelly actor, Salvatore Coco; children’s television presenter, Maude Garrett; Home and Away actor, Jay Laga’aia and Foxtel’s Movie Network Channel presenter, Penne Dennison.

Seventy-five per cent of vision loss is preventable or treatable, yet every 65 minutes an Australian loses part or all of their vision.
Ms Sales says she is pleased she has had her eyes tested and in doing so, hopes to encourage others to get their eyes tested this month.
“My eyesight is so important to my job, I want to take care of it. The test took just 30 minutes and was a simple thing to do. If it helps to prevent eye disease and vision loss, then I plan to get my eyes tested regularly in the future.
“I want to encourage people across Australia to get behind julEYE. Contact your optometrist, GP or ophthalmologist this month and book in for an eye test,” Ms Sales said.

An eye test can help detect early signs of eye disease that could lead to vision loss. The Eye Foundation is encouraging all Australians to go and see their local eye care practitioner to get their eyes tested in julEYE.
