World Sight Day Challenge

Optometry Giving Sight is encouraging all optometrists to take part in the fourth annual World Sight Day Challenge from 1 September to 14 October (World Sight Day).

The charity is asking all of you to help transform lives through the gift of vision by registering today and donating your eye exam fees from World Sight Day or make a personal or practice donation and / or hold a practice celebration and invite patient donations over the month.

Nick Hansen from Hansen Eyecare Plus in Orange is a certain starter. “My colleagues enjoy knowing that they are helping to raise money for a great cause and my patients are often happy to make a donation when they visit,” he says.

There are 670 million people around the world who are blind or vision impaired simply due to uncorrected refractive error – that’s almost 30 times the population of Australia.

“This World Sight Day marks the half way point in global efforts to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020. We have made significant progress already by training thousands of new eye care professionals to provide services in underserved communities, as well as the infrastructure to support them,” says Bob Lees, Chair of Optometry Giving Sight in Australia.

Register for the World Sight Day Challenge at www.givingsight.org.
