Sunglass Hut has reached a century by opening its 100th store in South Africa at Johannesburg’s Oliver Tambo airport in July.
Sunglass Hut, the retail division of the Luxottica Group is the largest eyewear retailer globally and now follows suit in South Africa.
Mike Elliott, GM of Sunglass Hut South Africa, says where ordinarily the luxury good category is negatively impacted by an economic recession, Sunglass Hut has positioned luxury eyewear as accessible and available.
“Through the strategic partnership with Edgars (South Africa’s top retailer), they have also made it affordable through credit. Sunglass Hut has significantly opened up the luxury eyewear category to the South African market.
“Our immediate plan is to grow our partnership with Edgars and to continue to develop our market leadership position by bringing in exciting and fashion forward product to the South African market place.
“With the current retail market demanding innovation and survival of the fittest, it is encouraging to see retailers thinking out of the box and going beyond the ordinary to create a better customer experience”.
