Optometry Giving Sight has announced a glittering fund-raising night of entertainment at the Crystal Ball Gala Dinner to be held at Sydney’s Epping Club on Saturday 26 March 2011.
The money raised will go to help children like nine-year old Sri Lankan boy Mihiranga, who was unable to see into the distance and had suffered from headaches for several years.
Mihiranga couldn’t see the chalk board at school and was falling behind his classmates in his grades. His mother took him to the Optometry Giving Sight funded Vision Centre in rural Warakapola when it opened in May last year.
Niroshan, one of the Vision Technicians who completed his year-long training at the beginning of 2009 and who now runs the Vision Centre, identified refractive error. Niroshan provided the child with spectacles and now, a year later, Mihiranga has improved greatly.

Matt Oerding, the Managing Director of Ciba Vision Australia/New Zealand, which has supported Optometry Giving Sight globally and locally for the past five years, said the Gala Dinner was an enjoyable way to spend an evening with friends from the industry, while raising funds for a great cause.
The event is open to everyone in the optical profession and industry as well as their friends and family. For more information contact Ron Baroni, Australian Manager of Optometry Giving Sight at email@example.com or call (AUS) 1300 88 10 73.
