Luxottica Acquires MySight Vision Group

The world’s largest eye care and eyewear company Luxottica – owner of OPSM, Budget Eyewear and Sunglass Hut – has extended its dominant reach in New Zealand, with the acquisition of the New Zealand-based My Sight Vision Specialists Group.

The purchase adds 12 North Island optical stores and the online contact lens business, LensDirect, to Luxottica’s ever expanding stable.

Luxottica now has 110 optical stores in New Zealand, including 14 stores and the website www.contacts2go.co.nz, which were purchased last year.

Chris Beer, CEO of Luxottica Asia Pacific, said nine of the MySight Vision Specialist Group stores just bought by Luxottica will become Budget Eyewear, while the others will come under the OPSM banner.

“New Zealand is an important market for (Luxottica) and we are focused on growing our key retail brands here both organically and through acquisition.

“The MySight Vision Specialist Group purchase marks an important step in our strategy to increase our budget offering to New Zealanders.

“MySight Vision Specialists Group has a strong heritage and we have been impressed by the service-focused approach of its optometrists and other employees. As we do for all our people, we will be looking to provide many of them with tailored training and career development opportunities – a distinct benefit of being part of a larger organisation,” Mr. Beer said.
