An optical retailer in the U.S. has been confined to his home and put under strict behavioural controls after a Manhattan judge found him guilty of significant social misconduct.
Prosecutors say Vitaly Borker, 34, sent ‘bone-chilling’ threatening emails to customers that included pictures of his victims’ homes. He allegedly threatened a pregnant woman with physical and sexual violence against her and her unborn child. He continued his bullying despite hundreds of complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and several state court cases since 2005, officials said.
Mr. Borker was granted bail after a psychologist testified on Wednesday that he probably wouldn’t hurt anyone. However the Federal Judge who heard the case warned him that any further anti-social behaviour would have consequences.
“These threats are really chilling, Mr. Borker. The medical expert gives me greater confidence that you are not going to go and do something godawful and violent,” said Federal Judge Richard Sullivan.

“If there’s any backsliding on these conditions then we’ll put you back in,” he added.
Federal Judge Sullivan put restrictions on Borker: home confinement with no Internet or computer access; a phone that can only call pre-set numbers, including his lawyer; drug and alcohol testing and surprise visits from authorities. He is also prohibited from running his business, DecorMyEyes.com, from his home.
