Hubert Sagnières has been appointed as the joint Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Essilor International from 2 January 2012.
Since 1 January 2010 the roles of Chairman and CEO were separately held. Xavier Fontanet was Chairman and Hubert Sagnières (pictured) the CEO.
However at the 2011 Annual Shareholder’s Meeting on 5 May 2011, Xavier Fontanet indicated that he thought it was the appropriate time to return to Essilor’s traditional mode of governance by regrouping the functions of Chairman and CEO.
Under the new arrangement, Xavier Fonanet will continue with Essilor International as a Board member.

The Board thanked Xavier Fontanet for the 20 years he has devoted to the growth of the company, its international development and the promotion of its values. The Board congratulated him on the way that he had prepared his succession and his commitment to exemplary corporate governance.
Essilor’s Board also recognised the contribution of Hubert Sagnières during his 22 year career within the Group and in particular in his role as CEO since the 1st January 2010.
