The world’s most influential eyewear exhibition, Mido, will take place in Milan, Italy from 11–13 March. This grand optics fair, now in its 42nd edition, brings together leading exhibitors from around the world including up and coming eyewear designers and manufacturers from the industry.
With all the major design and technology companies in one place, Mido is considered to be an essential and unique opportunity to boost business and communications. Here visitors can see and touch products, evaluate the competence of manufacturers and identify emerging market trends and innovations.
For manufacturers, Mido provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate and launch products – and in doing so, create international awareness, acquire first hand feedback, and most importantly, collect orders. Australian eyewear designers, such as Jonathon Hennessey, also use fairs like Mido, to secure new international distributors and maintain existing relationships.
For visitors and exhibitors alike, the annual Italian fair provides the opportunity to network with industry members from around the world, source new suppliers, and acquire business know-how.

Mido Fashion
The Mido Fashion District will make its debut at this year’s fair – an exclusive space where the top names in eyewear will compete head to head. Additionally, those in search of the cutting-edge, in terms of experimentation and design, can pay a visit to the renowned Mido Design Lab where all boundaries are pushed in terms of shapes, styles, colours, and materials. More frames will be on display in the Asian Pavilion.
MidoTech
Mido Tech is the world’s largest exhibition space dedicated to technologies, machinery and raw materials. With more than 150 international exhibitors in one pavilion, it showcases the entire production chain. Here eyewear designers and manufacturers can source the latest equipment, small parts, components and finishes. For the first time, Mido will establish ‘the world of lenses’ – a dedicated pavilion that encompasses a Health & Innovation area.
Mido Health and Innovation
The Health and Innovation area is dedicated to ophthalmic lenses. Here workshops, presentations and press conferences will be held, along with the latest innovation at Mido – the Health & Innovation Forum. As an integral part of the exhibition area, the forum extends the opportunity for industry professionals to visit the stands of businesses and at the same time be informed and updated on the most recent developments in products, technology, innovation and wellbeing.
Building on Solid Numbers
Despite a stifled global economy, Mido organisers expect a solid turnout for the 42nd edition of Mido. In 2011, more than 1,100 exhibitors from 44 countries and representatives of all five continents were exposed to more than 42 thousand visitors – an increase of 3 per cent over the year before.
Mido is on from 11 – 13 March in the pavilions of Fieramilano Rho-Pero, Milan.
