Crizal Forte UV by Essilor involves a new anti-reflective coating layer on the back-surface of the lens called Broad Spectrum Technology, which virtually eliminates UV light reflection into the eyes while maintaining lens transparency.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column]
Inspired by the systems used to rate the efficiency of skincare and sunscreen products Essilor has also developed an Eye-Sun Protection Factor (E-SPF) rating system for consumer awareness. This objective laboratory index for eyewear certifies the global UV protection of a lens. Values vary from two to a maximum of 25 for clear lenses and ‘50+’ for Transitions products and Xperio polarised sunwear. Essilor says its Crizal Forte UV lens has an E-SPF of 25.
The E-SPF protocol and values have been endorsed by American Professor of Optometry Dr. Karl Citek, one of the first researchers to have established the hazard linked to UV back-surface reflection.
