Optometry Giving Sight is asking optometrists to ‘Tick Yes’ to its fund raising appeal when they renew their membership with the Optometrists Association Australia (OAA) this year.
The appeal is a quick and easy way for optometrists to help give the gift of vision to the millions of people around the world who do not have access to an eye exam or pair of glasses.
Donations help people like Fatuma Chande, 18, from Tanzania, who had been struggling through school and unable to read the blackboard until a new Vision Centre opened in her village. She was given the chance to have her first ever eye exam, which showed an uncorrected distance acuity measuring 6/36. A trial lens refraction near -2.00D resulted in clear vision for Fatuma. With her parents aging, she can now pursue her education, which will enable her to provide more for her family.
You can help Optometry Giving Sight support programs that establish Vision Centres, train local people, and deliver eye care services. Eighty-five per cent of all donations go directly to supporting sustainable eye care projects in the developing world.

Robert Webster is an optometrist from NSW, who participates in the Tick Yes program every year.
“I like the fact that the OAA has nominated a single charity for optometry to support, so that as a group we can make a worthwhile contribution to what is an enormous global problem,” he said. Robert’s practice also participates in the donation box program.
Simply “Tick Yes to OGS” on your OAA membership renewal form to support the work of Optometry Giving Sight.
