Provision’s Fitzgerald Optometrist in Williamstown was awarded first prize for Interior Design – Retail Category. Vision Camberwell was recognised in the top 10 entrants.
Fitzgerald Optometrist has operated in Williamstown for 30 years but recently moved to new premises. The practice owner, John Fitzgerald commissioned Two Design to undertake extensive works with a budget of just AUD$150,000 and a vast space of 128m2 to work with.
Strong colours, enormous free-standing mirrors and minimalist furnishings capture immediate attention from the street through floor to ceiling windows. A single white panel provides the backdrop for the more traditional spectacle display.

Despite the tight budget, the practice has been designed with sustainability in mind. The rear feature timber wall was built using pre laminated timber flooring and the shop front glazing maximised to allow the space to be flooded with natural light, reducing the overall lighting load. Additionally, lighting from the client’s previous practice was refurbished and reused.
Speaking of the fit-out, John Fitzgerald said, “All of our patients have really been wowed and amazed… most talk about the sense of space and light out the front and they comment on how welcome they feel”.
