In a first for the Association, the E-Learning platform enables members to log in and view videos and PowerPoint presentations, and answer online quizzes as part of a structured learning pathway. CPD points are available to optometrist members for selected content.
Speaking of the online education system, ACBO President, Dr. Paul Levi said, “This is an initiative that will benefit many members, especially those who find it difficult to attend conferences due to their location or inability to leave their practices. Although it will never replace the benefits of attending a face to face conference, it gives us a great way to deliver the more theoretical component of our education”.
Work is now under way to make more content available online. For example, “Introduction to Behavioural Optometry” is expected to be available by the end of 2013, with more content to follow.
“ACBO’s core mission is to deliver Behavioural Optometry education to its members,” says Veronica Kypros, Executive Officer of ACBO. “Our E-Learning platform gives us a vehicle for providing more education in a way that can be accessed by all”.
