ODMA Builds Skills for Young Optoms

Recent optometry graduates gathered in Sydney’s inner city suburb of Newtown in mid April to attend a Young Optometrists (YO) Business Skills Workshop.

The event, which was organised and sponsored by ODMA, attracted 40 guests to Rubyos Restaurant to enjoy dinner and hear from three key speakers: John Manning, Managing Director of Dewings Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers; Michael Denholm a chartered accountant and manager at Dewings; and Chedy Kelach an ophthalmic practice management lecturer.

These formal presentations covered topics including optometry practice financial models and the importance of having a business plan. Attendees then participated in a workshop where they were asked to analyse a sample practice financial model as well as think critically about competitor behaviour.

The Business Skills Workshop was conducted by YO executives Rajeev Naidu and Christopher Pooley as well as ODMA’s Finola Carey and Phuong Nguyen.
