A new entity and website has been developed to bring together the commercial subsidiaries of the Brien Holden Vision Institute so that products and services for vision correction, and to detect signs of vision threatening diseases, can be developed and commercialised more effectively.
The commercial subsidiaries to be showcased on www.brienholdenvision.com fall into three strategic categories:
Vision care products – such as contact lenses and lens care solutions that improve health and vision, control myopia and correct presbyopia; enabling technology – technology that detects eye and health problems to deliver better health and vision care at affordable cost; and social entrepreneurship – innovative, sustainable vision care delivery systems and facilities based on best-practice affordable vision care.
Among these companies is Brien Holden Vision Diagnostics (formerly Quantum Catch), which designs, manufactures and sells affordable, high-quality diagnostic medical devices.
… we can license the cutting-edge technology… then reinvest funds
Speaking of the initiative, Professor Holden said, “Brien Holden Vision Institute has a clear mission. Our core activities mean we can license the cutting-edge technology developed by our teams to commercial organisations, and then reinvest funds back to sustain and expand our work in our eye care programs around the world. This is definitely an exciting time for vision science.
“As well as raising awareness, a lot more needs to be done if we are to eliminate vision impairment and avoidable blindness,” he added.
“Prevention is the key. At Brien Holden Vision, working with world experts, we hope to design, manufacture and distribute ophthalmic devices that will help shape the eye health landscape. Everyone, everywhere has the right to see clearly, the launch of Brien Holden Vision will help make this a reality.”
