The Fred Hollows Foundation’s Cambodian organisation has received six pupilometers and test cards donated by Camberwell optometrist and Specsavers store partner Neale Pugh.
The equipment will be used during eye intensives in some of Cambodia’s remote regions as well as in the capital, Phnom Penh.
Mr. Pugh also provided training and support to Cambodian eye professionals last year, both in Cambodia and back in Melbourne, as part of The Foundation’s outreach program.
“It was a really rewarding experience to be able to share skills and knowledge with local optometrists in Cambodia to help make a difference to the eye health of those in need. It’s an achievement to save someone’s sight, but it’s a real accomplishment to train local professionals so that they can go on to help their entire community,” he said.

Penny Tribe, Senior Executive – Partnerships at The Fred Hollows Foundation, said the Specsavers optometrists’ visit to Cambodia provided valuable assistance to the local team. “The Foundation believes that building local capacity is the key to creating sustainable eye health programs in the developing world. Training is one of the cornerstones of this model and together with Specsavers, The Foundation is keeping Fred Hollows’s dream alive,” said Ms. Tribe.
Specsavers Camberwell alone has raised more than AU$1,000 for The Fred Hollows Foundation and OzHarvest in just six months through its Specsavers Community Program.
