“This was a very hard decision and made in respect to Essilor’s long standing relationship with ECPs in Australia,” said Geoff Henshaw, Managing Director of Clearly ANZ. “If there is a silver lining it is that this will allow us to focus our resources on our online business, where we are seeing great results. With this in mind we like our future growth prospects in Australia.”
While prescription lenses are at the heart of Essilor’s business, Clearly’s primary business is online retailing of optical products. According to a statement, Clearly expects to “continue to accelerate its leadership in online optical in Australia through extra resources being directed to its online channels”.
“Customers can be assured the same great service with ongoing research being undertaken to understand the needs and priorities of the Clearly customer.”
Essilor has moved quickly to begin the process of integrating Coastal and Clearly into its global network of eyewear companies. The acquisition of Coastal will assist in significantly expanding Essilor’s online presence and the company’s multichannel capabilities.
