Tom Duesbury has returned to Australia from the United Kingdom to take up the role of national key account manager and NSW sales manager at Hoya.
For the past two years, Mr. Duesbury has worked with Hoya in the East of England, based in Cambridge. Prior to leaving for the UK he was a sales representative and then a key account manager with Hoya Australia.
Mr. Duesbury said having worked with lenses in both the UK and Australian markets there are some similarities but also many differences. “The UK is highly competitive with more manufacturers and distributors. There are also more chain stores – whereas Specsavers is the largest chain in Australia, in the UK it is just one of five large chain stores.”
He said unlike Australia, optical dispensing remains a regulated profession in the UK, however the Australian market is more mature in its use of advanced lens technologies with a greater uptake of premium progressives and AR coatings when compared to the UK.
Having already settled into his new dual roles at Hoya Australia, Mr. Duesbury said he was looking forward to creating greater market awareness of Hoya’s commitment to research and development and the features of individual products.
“I loved my time in England but its great to be back to sunny days and lush green golf courses all year round. There are many new faces at Hoya but there are just as many old faces. I’m really enjoying being back.”
