World experts in myopia will deliver an evening of free myopia CPD lectures at the Brien Holden Vision Institute in Sydney next month.
The Institute, based at the University of New South Wales, and guided by Professor Brien Holden, has been a leader in investigating major causes and solutions to blindness and impaired vision from uncorrected refractive error and the global epidemic of myopia.
“Myopia has traditionally been considered an Asian health issue but the incidence and prevalence of myopia is increasing dramatically all over the world,” said Professor Holden.
“It is important to review the evidence on the impact of myopia and share these findings with eye care practitioners, especially high myopia, which significantly increases the risk of blindness.”
Professor Earl Smith III… has been reshaping the way we think about our eyes for most of his career
Heading the evening program is Professor Earl Smith III, the Chief Health Office of the University of Houston.
“This is a unique opportunity to hear from Professor Earl Smith III, who has been reshaping the way we think about our eyes for most of his career; our understanding of myopia has been revolutionised by his insights”, said Professor Holden.
“We are delighted to have Dr. Serge Resnikoff, a leading in international expert in global public health, ophthalmology and eye health to talk of the prevalence and public health issues and Dr. Monica Jong, Manager of (the Brien Holden Vision Institute’s) High Myopia studies with Zhongshan Ophthalmic Centre in Guangzhou discuss the threats to sight of high myopia later and life,” he said.
The final speaker on the program will be Prof. Holden, who will discuss practical and clinical issues with myopia control.”
The free myopia CPD lectures will be held at the Brien Holden Vision Institute on Wednesday, 18 March 2015. Delegates are advised to book as soon as possible via the Institute website at: www.brienholdenvision.org.
